When caring for a loved one with a disability, routine appointments like well visits and dental care can sometimes feel like climbing a mountain.

As our Elderhood and Aging Specialist Norma Draper shares, accommodating for the needs of each individual makes a world of difference.
“We took my grandson Justin to UVA for a dental consultation. I was so impressed with the team who were so attentive and asked a lot of questions. There must have been four or five technicians as well as the dentist. They took a lot of time with us. Their process is very thorough with all the steps before the actual appointment takes place. An appointment is scheduled and then 30 days before the appointment they need a physical and then no more than two weeks before the appointment we go for a pre-anesthesia evaluation and testing.”
